Emergency Dental Care

What is considered a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency is an urgent situation that often requires care as soon as possible to eliminate pain and prevent further injury or possible infection. The most common dental emergencies include:

  • Severe tooth pain (Wakes you up at night, sudden onset often without any stimulation)
  • Swelling of the jaw and/or face due to a tooth abscess
  • A fractured or broken tooth
  • A knocked-out tooth (place the tooth in milk as soon as possible and call Dr. McArthur. If milk is not available, keep the tooth in your mouth until you are seen by the dentist. If the tooth dries out too much, it likely cannot be saved)
  • A damaged, broken, or dislodged restoration

Please contact us as soon as possible during these situations. If you are unsure if you are experiencing a true dental emergency, please still contact us and we can discuss the situation and the appropriate response.
